I understood the science behind writing things down, so I incorporated the physical and the digital getting the best of both worlds, which Evernote allows nicely. Evernote even has a feature that allows you to set up reminders for notes you need to take action on. Then at the end of the day, I can go back and defer, delegate, or schedule it using a simple technique from David Allen’s Getting Things Done System. The act of handwriting allows you to capture information furthermore retain it. Writing things down helps rapid recall, more so than using any electronic note-taking application. The digital version seemed to have four issues complexity, technology learning curve, integrity, and inefficiency issues. Still, the analog version seemed time-consuming and daunting even though it has benefits. I tried to develop systems to resolve the issues and took several suggestions. I was seeking past information which is why I began using digital note-taking applications for their searchability and tagging features. But I also found weaknesses with digital note-taking. Going back through all those notebooks began to pose a problem. I used to carry a pocket-sized notebook around with me and write down everything, now I use Evernote.
